Ohio University and student leaders partner to create President’s Student Cabinet for Inclusive Excellence

Ohio University has partnered with five student leaders who are passionate about improving the university’s culture of inclusiveness to establish the President’s Student Cabinet for Comprehensive Excellence.

Founded in the spring of 2022, the Cabinet provides university leadership with a formal mechanism for gathering student feedback on the university’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusiveness.

Founding members of the President’s Student Cabinet for Inclusive Excellence include Kylie Duncan, Jasminglas, Gear Harper, Julian Ross, and Dana Shoulders.

“At Ohio University, diversity, fairness and inclusiveness continue to be our top priorities,” said President Hugh Sherman. “We are very grateful for the commitment of the founding members of the Student Cabinet and the people who participate. Their opinions and involvement ensure that all students feel safe and welcome on our campus. We are looking forward to interacting with members of the Student Cabinet to influence the real changes in Ohio University. “

Applications for cabinet participation can be submitted online and will be closed by May 20th. Virtual interviews and member selection will take place in May and early June.

Members of the Student Cabinet need to attend monthly meetings and talk with colleagues and managers to promote strategies and initiatives related to diversity, equity and inclusiveness. They are also required to be actively involved with their peers to ensure that all voices and perspectives are expressed.

The Cabinet kick-off meeting will be held in late June or early July. The Cabinet is convened monthly by the Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion and works with the President to set the agenda for each meeting.

Each meeting will be attended by the President, Provost, Vice-President for Diversity & Inclusion, and Vice-President of the Student Affairs Department. In addition, board representatives are invited to attend the meeting quarterly. The President and / or Vice-President for Diversity Inclusion will require the attendance of other university leaders as may be required based on the agenda.
